The local IT professional, Jim Phelan will be spending Christmas Day rowing solo, hoping to raise funds and support Duchenne UK and the fight to End Duchenne in Ten.

Born and raised in Manchester, Jim Phelan is the only rower participating in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge from the city.
With no prior rowing experience, Jim has dreamt of solo rowing the Atlantic Ocean for 13 years and has finally mustered the courage to get on board.
Solo rower Jim Phelan comments on the challenge: “I’ve had the ambition of taking on the Atlantic Ocean for many years and now that I’ve conquered my fears, I am finally ready to attempt one of my biggest dreams.
"It’s crucial that I demonstrate to my children that with hard work, determination and discipline, you can achieve anything in life – hopefully my actions will inspire anyone else who has a dream.
“I am keen to raise money and spread awareness for the research charity Duchenne UK as I believe it’s a good cause which aims to achieve something phenomenal, in order to save millions of children around the world.”
Wing Yip Director, Ennevor Yap added: “We are absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to support Jim, who is a long-term friend of ours, and we are so proud of his decision to take part in this life-changing event, demonstrating his unwavering bravery.
“It’s encouraging to see someone from Manchester step up to the challenge, and as an integral part of the local community, we thought we’d be best placed to offer a food package that will help Jim on the long journey ahead.”
