Oldham jobs fair returns

Date published: 10 September 2019

Oldham’s biggest jobs fair is back.

More than 600 job-related opportunities will be on offer at the annual Get Oldham Working (GOW) jobs fair on Thursday, September 26th.

With a variety of jobs, apprenticeships and work experience openings on offer from employers across the borough and beyond, this is a great opportunity if you’re looking for work or a new challenge.

You’ll also get the chance to present your CV to a potential new boss.

Councillor Shaid Mushtaq, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “The Get Oldham Working jobs fair continues to grow, and last year we had more than 1,500 people through the doors.

“It’s a great achievement to get so many employers and training providers under one roof offering so many work-related opportunities to our residents.

“Our jobs fair benefits everyone, no matter what your current circumstances are.

Whether you are job hunting for the first time, looking to return to work, searching for the next step in your career or even work experience to aid your university application, we would urge you to come on the day and speak with the employers.

“Make sure you bring an up to date CV and plenty of copies, so you can hand them out. Dress like you would do for a job interview too – it helps to make a good first impression.”

Debenhams, O2, HPP (Hills Panel Products), Metrolink, Wilmott Dixon, GMP, McDonalds, Guinness Housing, Miocare, Galliford Try, Manchester Airport, NSL and Housing Units are just some of the employers which have already confirmed they will be attending.

Training opportunities will also be on offer for anyone looking to develop their skillset in a range of fields, from introductions to IT to basic maths and English courses.

This free event runs from 11 am to 3pm on Thursday 26 September at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham, OL1 1QJ.

Just turn up on the day, no booking is required.

The QE Hall is next to Oldham Bus Station and pay and display parking is also available. Oldham King Street Metrolink stop is just a 2-3 minute walk away.

Staff from the GOW team will be on hand to advise about jobs, careers and access to training across a wide range of sectors within Oldham. There will also be plenty of space to complete any job applications that you pick up on the day, with additional support available in case you get stuck with any questions.

The Get Oldham Working jobs fair is run in partnership with Jobcentre Plus (Department for Work and Pensions), the National Careers Service, Ingeus and PeoplePlus.
