Delph Donkey Scarecrow Trail goes back in time

Delph Donkey Scarecrow Trail has a theme of children's books

Visitors and locals are going back in time and rekindling childhood memories in a picturesque Saddleworth village.

And this year, the 13th of the popular Delph Donkey Scarecrow Trail, is heralding a return to its first theme, children’s favourite books.

The twenty-five scarecrows are on display at key, surprising and quirky locations near the village centre until Sunday, June 16. 

The trail starts at Delph Library, down towards the crossroads and along Hillend Road up Delph Lane and returns back into the village via Denshaw road, Clifton Holmes, Pingle Mill and Swan Meadow.

And Rev John Rosedale, The Saddleworth Team rector, who lives in the village, has entered the events spirit by installing an all-action scarecrow on the wall of the vicarage.

Entrants can enjoy a pleasant walk around the village seeking out the locations until   looking for the Scarecrows using the trail guides which are on sale (£2) at Delph Post Office, the Library, The Co-op, other outlets in Delph and the Saddleworth Museum.

Completed answer sheets must be returned to Delph Post Office by Monday June 17 when winners will be selected at random from all correct entries received.

Prizes include a £50 voucher for The Old Bell Inn Restaurant, two tickets for any one show at any Saddleworth Players play in 2019/20, £20 voucher from Millgate Hair Studios and three Children's Book prizes from Waterstones.

The annual trail is organised by the Delph Community Association and all funds raised goes towards community projects including the maintenance and improvements of the Chapel Gardens.
