Motorists who use the M62 to get to and from work this morning (Wednesday 8th May) face long delays after the motorway was closed in both directions near Saddleworth due to a police incident.
Information about what’s happened is still coming through although it’s understood Police are dealing with a serious collision between Junction 23 for Huddersfield and 24 for Ainley Top on the eastbound side while a separate incident has happened between Junction 22 for Rishworth Moor and 23 for Huddersfield.
West Yorkshire Police have tweeted about the incident, saying the carriageway was first blocked by police around midnight.
The road is expected to be closed during the morning rush hour and could remain shut for longer than that.
In a statement Highways England have said: “Highways England is advising road users in the North of England that the M62 will remain closed in both directions around Huddersfield through this morning’s peak period (Wednesday 8 May).
Following an earlier incident, the motorway is closed between junctions 22 and 24 in both directions.
Drivers heading eastbound are currently being diverted to exit at junction 22, take the A672, then the A58 to re-join the M62 at junction 26. Drivers heading westbound are currently being diverted to exit at junction 24, take the A629, then the A643, then the A58, and finally the A672 to re-join the M62 at junction 22.
