Paul Scholes has resigned from Oldham Athletic
In a season which has seen many twists and turns, Oldham Athletic are back on the search for a new manager after the club announced Paul Scholes has resigned after little over a month in charge.
The 44-year old was unveiled at Boundary Park in front of a packed media room at a press conference just over four weeks ago saying he was ready to give management a try and wanting to challenge himself.
However the former Manchester United and England midfielder has decided management, at this stage of his life, isn’t for him after only seven games in charge.
It won’t go down as the most successful tenure at Latics, during his seven games in charge Scholes oversaw just one win, a 4-1 triumph little more than 24-hours after he was announced as manager.
Since then the club have failed to bag three points in the league with his final game coming on Tuesday night at league leaders Lincoln City, which Oldham Athletic lost 2-0.
In a statement on Oldham Athletic’s website, the club have said: “Oldham Athletic Football Club can confirm that Paul Scholes has resigned from his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect.
We would like to place on record our thanks to Paul for his efforts during his spell in charge of the club and would like to wish him well for the future.
An update on the permanent replacement will be made as soon as possible.”
No announcement has been made on who’ll lead the team for the game at Boundary Park against Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.
