New rules have come into force in a bid to improve security at the Civic Hall in Uppermill.
It’s after a number of incidents and disturbances at events held at the building in the last 12 months.
Saddleworth Parish Council, which is responsible for the building, will look at each event booked into the venue before deciding whether extra security is needed.
If no security is provided by whoever is hiring the Civic Hall but the Parish Council believes the event needs it, then they will add the cost onto their prices and provide it themselves.
It’s understood the extra cost would be £150, which would pay for two door staff.
The scheme would see staff hired from the same pool as used by other venues in the village – to make sure they are all in contact with each other and keep disturbances and trouble to a minimum.
The Council says it’s taking action because they take the security of the building and of local residents “very seriously”.
The plans were approved unanimously in December – while they’re also looking into providing funds for CCTV and improving lights around the Civic Hall.
