Can you dance the Meccarena?

Date published: 22 November 2018

Mecca Oldham has launched a search to find the best dancers in Oldham as staff gear up to attempt a virtual record attempt to have the most people dancing the Macarena.

The famous one hit wonder, the Macarena, is currently celebrating 25 years since topping the charts, and to celebrate Meccabingo.com has created its own 'Meccarena' version.

In addition to being part of a record attempt, there’s £2,000 worth of prizes up for grabs.

The overall winner will receive a holiday to Spain where the song first originated.

To be in with a chance of winning, Mecca Oldham is encouraging all budding dancers in the town to upload a video clip of their best performance of the Meccarena dance to www.dothemeccarena.com by no later than Wednesday, January 16.

The dance videos to the one hit wonder routine should be full of fun and energy with plenty of jumping, jiving and 90s vibes.

Tony Beverley, Club Manager at Mecca Oldham, said: “We’re so excited to announce the launch of our Meccarena record attempt, we can’t wait to find out what amazing performers could be hiding in Oldham!

“We believe bingo and top entertainment should be one and the same, and what better way to do it than to get the nation dancing.

"With an impressive holiday and cash prizes there for the taking, here’s hoping the Meccarena winner hails from Oldham.”

Professional dancer Kristina Rihanoff has been working with Meccabingo.com to help coach the nation on how to perfect the moves to the popular one hit wonder, and to help encourage people to get involved in an attempt to break a virtual world record for the most people doing the Meccarena.

Mecca Bingo’s Meccarena virtual world record focuses on the fun and excitement people experience when playing with Mecca.

The new campaign features a bingo lyric version of the original Macarena one hit wonder, with the hope that the popularity of the track will see the original back at No1 and a new record set for fans dancing the Meccarena moves.
