Luke De La Haye tries on his waterproof clothes ahead of his Mount Snowdon Challenge
The only way is definitely up for nine-year-old Luke De La Haye as he is preparing to scale the heights of Mount Snowdon!
Luke, who lives in Shaw with mum Gemma, dad Glen and brothers Reece and Jake, was diagnosed with autism at the age of three.
All three boys have autism.
Luke attended mainstream school initially, but due to unmanageable behaviour he moved to Hollinwood Academy Autism School three years ago.
Now, after such a successful spell at his new school, Luke wants to give something back, and what an amazing way he has chosen to raise some much-needed funds.
Mum Gemma said: “We have seen a massive improvement in Luke’s behaviour since receiving the right support at School.
“All the staff at Hollinwood Academy are fantastic and support families as well as children.
“The teachers all have an excellent understanding of all the children’s needs.
“Luke now wants to raise money for the school to make an outdoor learning space with sensory equipment.
“We want to raise £1,000 and have already got £405 in just 48 hours after setting up the JustGiving page.”
Luke can’t wait for his epic trek next Friday, November 2.
Gemma added: “Luke will be walking up Mount Snowdon with a wonderful teacher from his school, Mrs Sarah Dunsdon, who will keep him focussed and determined to reach the top.
“It’s going to be a huge challenge for Luke as he struggles with low self esteem and gives in if he feels like he will fail.
“The Mount Snowdon challenge will test his physical and mental ability, but I’m sure this will give him a massive confidence boost.
“We are all so proud of Luke for agreeing to this challenge.”
