An Oldham man is said to be in a serious condition in hospital after being beaten unconscious by a gang of men during the early hours of Sunday morning (September 2).

It was at around 1.20am when police say they were called to an incident on Turf Lane in Chadderton where a 21-year old man had been assaulted.

In a post on social media, the victim’s sister, Zoe Schofield, said her younger brother, Jake, had been on a night out when he was attacked, kicked in the head multiple times, fracturing his skull, cheek, nose and finger.

Emergency services were on the scene within minutes of the attack being reported and rushed Jake to Salford Royal Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.

It’s understood as many as three men were involved in the assault, leaving Jake laying in a pool of blood on the floor while they fled the scene in a waiting car.

In her post on Facebook, Zoe said: “I urge anybody who seen heard or caught it on video to please save them and pass them on if possible I know there was a few witnesses but the men responsible for beating a 21-year-old lad who was defenceless as he was blind drunk need putting away.”

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police have said: “At around 1.20am on Sunday 2nd September, police received a report that a man had been assaulted on Turf Lane, Chadderton.

“The man was taken to hospital to be treated for serious head injuries.

“Enquiries into the incident remain on-going and anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.”
