A brightening scene looking across Oldham Edge this morning
Oldhamers can look forward to a spell of beautiful summer weather as the forecasters are predicting soaring temperatures over the next couple of weeks.
Some places in southern UK could see temperatures rise to as high as 30 degrees, but more locally, the high 20s is widely expected, certainly during the early to middle part of next week - for starters.
Today (Thursday) it's been breezy across Oldham, but the fine weather is slowly drifting in.
Temperatures should reach 17 or 18 degrees by the middle of the afternoon.
High pressure starts to build from the west overnight tonight.
Tomorrow should see lengthy sunny spells with fair-weather cloud bubbling up during the day.
It will remain dry.
With lighter winds, the bright theme continues on Saturday, and then on Sunday, get the barbecues ready for the England vs Panama World Cup match as temperatures are really set to rise.
Sunday looks like seeing prolonged bright spells and temperatures should reach 23 degrees.
High pressure will be firmly in charge from Monday, and the north-west region looks likely to develop a southeasterly flow which will drag in hot air from the continent.
Oldham could be seeing values of 25-28 degrees quite widely.
This is expected to continue throughout the week with no sign of any significant rain.
As well as some hot sunshine during this period we should also see some variable cloud at times.
Local experts predict that the weather will become cooler from around July 2.
