Middleton Road/Oldham Way bypass bridge

Essential maintenance will start soon on the Middleton Road (A669)/Oldham Way (A627) bypass bridge.

Initial work is due to start on Monday 8 January and because of the complexity and scale of the scheme contractors are expected to be on site until December.

The work involves repairing the steel inside the bridge which has corroded over the years as well as the concrete, plus surfacing and waterproofing to prevent similar damage re-occurring.

The various works have to be undertaken in sequence for one half of the bridge and then repeated for the other half.

So the strengthening of the bridge can be carried out a number of traffic management schemes will be in place throughout the course of this year.

A 30mph speed limit will be in place on Oldham Way from the second week in January and will last until the scheme is completed.

Over the course of the scheme contraflows and slip roads closures on each side of the bridge will also have to be carried out at different times as the works progress.

Signs will be put in place in advance of the works starting – and during the full course - so motorists can plan their journeys accordingly and use diversions if necessary.
