Early this week I was proud to welcome one of our local schools at the British Council in London. Limehurst Primary School in Oldham West & Royton has been awarded the British Council’s prestigious International School Award in recognition of its work to bring the world into the classroom.

The International School Award commends the achievements of schools that do exceptional work in international education.

Limehurst Primary School has an ongoing partnership with Youfu Primary School in Nanjing, China. This involves joint projects taking place between both schools throughout the year. Pupils from the school also get the opportunity to visit Youfu to gain an understanding of the Chinese Culture and their Education system.

They are able to then share their experience and understanding of the different cultures with their peers, the pupils stay in contact with each other as email pen friends and also work online with the children of Youfu such as ‘Peace Postcards’.

Limehurst is leading by example by widening their pupils global knowledge of different cultures and learning systems. The Limehurst School also carries out other International work such as European Peace Pledge activities which link in to the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, with the school having recently signed the Brussels Declaration.
