Girlguiding Oldham celebrates 30 years of Rainbows
Date published: 17 November 2017
There was a cause for celebration as Rainbows turned 30 years old.
70 Rainbows, aged 5-7, from across three Oldham Girlguiding districts joined together for a fun filled day of activity and adventure at Waddow Hall, a Girlguiding activity centre near Clitheroe.
A fantastic time was had by Rainbows and their leaders, as they challenged themselves with a variety of activities. Challenges ranged from Team Building and Team Skills, to the more adventurous Grass Sledging, Caving and Blindfolded Sensory Trails.
Valerie Roscoe, Division Commissioner: “I am delighted to be have been able to take the Rainbows to Waddow Hall to celebrate their 30th year. There is often the misconception of what girls can do in Girlguiding; this day has completely blown that misconception away.”
“These Rainbows have challenged themselves to take a leap into the unknown, putting their trust in each other and supporting their friends through the tougher activities. The Caving was certainly a challenge which required plenty of morale support.”
Girlguiding has just started a national recruitment campaign for volunteers, in hopes to give more young women these fantastic opportunities.
Girlguiding gives girls and young women a space where they can be themselves, have fun, build brilliant friendships, gain valuable life skills and make a positive difference to their lives and their communities.
