A group of Guides from 21th Oldham Friezland Guides have been presented with their Baden Powell Challenge Award – the highest award a Guide can receive.
The presentation was made by Catherine Brierley, District Commissioner and Guide Leader. The girls receiving this prestigious award are Sally Gibson, Milly Crickett, Faith Schofield, Hannah Kearney and Beth Taylor.
To be able to work towards the Baden Powell Challenge Award, a Guide must have gained two challenge badges and at least two interest badges. The Baden Powell Challenge is made up of five zones which must be completed: Healthy Lifestyles, Global Awareness, Discovery, Skills and Relationships and Celebrating Diversity.
The Guides challenged themselves by organising an international evening, approaching the tough subjects of online safety and bullying, fundraising towards their Baden Powell challenge weekend, litter picking and leading the discussion on Fair Trade.
The Baden Powell Challenge Weekend is for Guides who are approaching the end of their journey towards the award. This weekend camp brings Guides together from the Region and presents them with the opportunities to take part in new, fun activities and to complete the remaining clauses of their challenge.
Upon receiving her award, Faith said: "The BP weekend was one of the best experiences of my life!"
Sally joined the plaudits by saying: "I will build on the skills I learnt doing my BP award and the weekend away was awesome!"
Catherine Brierley, Guide Leader: "We are extremely proud of the hard work they put in to fulfil their Baden Powell clauses. They showed fantastic leadership skills. All girls should be proud of themselves and each other."
