HOT-SHOT . . . Royton Town's Wayne Dean (yellow shirt)
ROYTON Town made comfortable progress in the Manchester League's Gilgryst Cup, defeating hosts Westbury 6-1.
Wayne Dean notched a super hat-trick, while Joe Jacombs and Michael Moss (two) were also on target for Town.
Uppermill lost 4-0 at home against Manchester Central, while Avro beat East Manchester 4-3 on penalties after it ended 2-2.
In Premier Division action, Springhead's 100-per-cent start is over, but they remain unbeaten and four points clear at the top of the table following a 2-2 draw at home to Walshaw.
'Head produced their poorest display of the season and the home side needed a last-minute equaliser to save their blushes.
Leighton Stephenson atoned for an earlier miss to convert Nathan Eastmond's cross, while in injury time, Eastmond's cross was bundled into his own net by the distraught Walshaw goalkeeper.
SAVED
The hosts almost nicked an unlikely victory, but Eastmond saw his effort saved in what was the last action of the game.
Hollinwood were beaten 2-1 at Chapel Town in Division One.
Heyside made it through to the second round of the Manchester FA Challenge Trophy thanks to a hard-fought 3-2 victory against neighbours Chadderton reserves.
Heyside, who have started life well in their first season in the Manchester League, found themselves a goal behind after just five minutes.
The hosts should have equalised in the 20th minute when a Daniel Dunn corner fell to the unmarked Gary Schofield eight yards out, but he sliced the ball horribly wide. Mark Hopwood also went close.
Just before half-time Jordan Hindley drove home the equaliser.
Schofield scrambled the ball home from close range early in the second period, before Heyside captain Johnny Pauley scooped in to make it 3-1.
CONSOLATION
Chaddy grabbed a late consolation goal as Heyside hung on comfortably.
Boss Geoff Howard said: "Despite the conditions, that was a really decent game of football and credit to Chadderton's young side, who gave it a right good go at the end.
"I'm just pleased we're through."
