ASHTON 'B' retained the Oldham and District Golf League's 'B' Team Cup with a narrow 3-2 win over Blackley in the final played at Stamford.
Captain Danny Andrew was the Ashton hero - holing a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-three last for victory.
His 18th-green heroics clinched the team's vital third point with partner Dave Briddon over opponents Mark Crosfield and Rob Munson after Munson had himself birdied the par-five 17th to bring the game back into the balance at all square.
Brendan Kennedy, who is bowing out after 12 years as the league secretary, was also among the Ashton winners as he and Dave Lewis succeeded 3&2, while in-form Glyn Andrew (see men's results) and Simon Heeley romped to a 5&4 win.
Alan Rigsby and Mark Hughes (one-up) and Mark Greenhalgh and Mike Flanagan (3&2) picked up the wins for Blackley.
The league title winners will be decided over the next two weekends.
The 'B' League play-off final takes place on Saturday (3pm at Ashton) when Oldham 'B' meet Blackley 'B'.
Blackley captain Carl Murphy will looking to see his side bounce back after the cup final defeat, which ended their hopes of the double. He will not want to be left empty-handed.
The 'A' final then takes place on Sunday, September 11 (3pm, also at Ashton) when North Manchester 'A' and Stamford 'A' will fight it out for the top honour.
The league's season then ends with the traditional Brian Atack team tournament, which this year takes place at Brookdale on Sunday, September 25.
Entries are now being received for this through team captains. This event doubles up as the league's presentation.
