TWO Oldham and District Golf League clubs have made it through to finals day in the prestigious Dunham Forest Trophy, the flagship competition of the Manchester and District Golf Alliance.
Dukinfield did it the hard way with a 5-2 win at Bramhall Park while Fairfield join them in the last-four shoot-out at Dunham Forest after a 5.5-1.5 home win over Brightmet.
Dukinfield professional Dave Green had to play through the pain to gain his valuable point. He has been suffering from gout and was finding it difficult to walk. But it was a case of 'beware the injured golfer' and he came through with a 4&3 success.
Other winners for the Tameside club were Colin McGuiggan (2&1), Barry Lees (3&1), Josh Ainscough (4&3) and Martin Schofield (2 holes) which booked their spot in the last four for the second time in three years. Last time they lost to eventual winners Bramhall.
In Fairfield's success there were wins for Paul McKee (20th), Matthew Ross (2&1), Daniel Heathcote (4&3), Darren Wild (5&4), pro Steve Pownell (3&2) and a half for David Heathcote, called in when all square at 17 with the result decided.
The finals day line-up on September 17 will be completed by Rossendale or Turton and Disley or holders Leigh, bidding to win the trophy for an incredible sixth time in seven years.
Blackley and Denton are both through to the semi-finals of the Manchester Glass Foursomes. Blackley had a fantastic 4-3 victory at Dunham Forest while Denton made home advantage count to beat Chapel-en-le-Frith 5-2.
