Must-win clash for Warriors
Date published: 23 August 2016
WATERHEAD Warriors must win their last game of the season to avoid having to seek re-election to the Kingstone Press National Conference League.
That is the equation facing the proud Peach Road club, after they went down to an 11th defeat of the season, losing 42-16 at home to Drighlington.
Waterhead's next game is in two weeks' time - there are no games this weekend due to the Challenge Cup final - when they travel to basement club Gateshead Storm.
Dave Orwell's side must win that one while also hoping that Dewsbury Moor, a point in front, lose at home to champions Crosfields.
James Pemberton and Niall Dunnington-Wallace crossed for the Warriors early on, Jamie Mayall converting both, with Ben Nabozny and Josh Milnes tries and two goals from Michael Sanderson leaving it poised at 12-12.
Nabozny's second nicked the visitors ahead by half-time and there was no looking back. Joe Bowness, Andy Jarrett, Dan Sanderson, Ben Kitchingman and Steve McIntyre all touched down.
Sanderson finished with five goals and Ciaran Dean's effort for Waterhead represented the hosts' only points of the second period.
