MATTHEW Ryan lit up the new Oldham Leisure Centre as he produced a fitting top-of-the-bill display at the VIP/Black Flash Boxing show.

Middleweight Ryan, from Middleton, secured a second-round knock-out win against Hungarian Zoltan Turai as he won an International Championship Challenge bout in front of a hugely appreciative audience, which included Bury's popular former world super-featherweight champion Scott Quigg.

That took Ryan's record to 11 wins from 12 professional fights and keeps him firmly on track to make good progress in his weight division.

Zelfa Barrett maintained his perfect record so far as he also produced a superb knock-out triumph, this time against Polish tough guy Damian Lawniczak.

Super-bantamweight Barrett was never troubled and secured victory by flooring his opponent in the third round.

There was a satisfying success in Oldham for Denton super-middleweight Lyndon 'Lights Out' Newman, who returned from three years out of the ring to pocket a well-deserved points verdict against Gloucestershire hopeful Lewis van Poetsch.

An excellent night of boxing action featured seven bouts in all, as Manchester debutant Mindaugas Baublys, Dublin's Philip Sutcliffe jnr, Manchester's Darryl Sharp and Ancoats' Dale Coyne also secured wins.

Coyne stretched his perfect record in the paid ranks to six wins from six.
