TURF Pit Lane managed to stay dry long enough for Moorside to beat Micklehurst in the JW Lees Brewery Pennine Cricket League Championship.

In one of only two first XI games in the PCL to be played to a finish because of rain, the hosts triumphed by eight wickets in the 25 overs per side thrash.

Micklehurst were reduced to five for four and 18 for five, before recovering to 97 for six, thanks to the efforts of Craig Lawrence (45 not out) and Jason Anderson (34). Overseas amateur Thomas Mashiane claimed three for 18 from his eight overs.

Moorside also made an inauspicious start, losing captain Danny Anchor and Imran Khan with only 11 runs on the board.

However, it was comfortable from then on in as Richard Harrington (50) and Jack Gartside (33) saw their side home with no more alarms.

In the Premiership, Monton & Weaste overcame Middleton (93 for eight) by seven wickets in a 24 overs match.

Austerlands reached 47 for two - Kevin Du Feu and professional Sachin Rana were the men out - when the rain arrived at Walsden.

There was no play in any of the other fixtures on Saturday.

WOODHOUSES are through to the second round of the Davidstow Village Cup competition after getting the better of Croston at Belfields yesterday.

They racked up 205 for eight from their reduced 30-over allocation.

On Saturday, Woodhouses lost at home against Astley and Tyldesley in the Greater Manchester League Division One.

With the match reduced to 31 overs per side due to the weather, Woodhouses took first knock and scored 173 for seven.

HEAVY rain showers curtailed any chance Delph had of extending their winning streak in the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership.

They got five overs in at Shelley and Delph reached 21 without loss - skipper Andrew Gleave scored eight and Chris Laker 12 - but then the match was abandoned with both teams pocketing two points each.
