ASHTON youngster Luke Kelly finished a creditable third in the Lancashire Boys’ Championship at Rossendale.
Kelly improved by 11 shots when he turned a first-round 80 into an impressive two-under 69 in round two.
He trailed winner Oliver Clarke (Hillside) by seven shots in a 55-strong field with Clarke posting 72-70 for an impressive two under 142 total.
It was Clarke’s second win in three years at this level and, having previously won both the under-14 and under-16 events, he is thought to be the first to win four county age-group titles.
Oliver will now represent Lancashire in the English Junior Champion of Champions tournament in September at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire. Home club Rossendale took the team prize and qualified for the English Junior Club tournament at Frilford Heath in August.
