SADDLEWORTH Rangers saw their three-game winning streak in the Kingstone Press National Conference League wrecked at Leigh East.
Paul Geener’s side, who had started the season so impressively, were beaten 42-12 in the Division Two clash. Rangers were up against it at the end of the first quarter as they trailed 12-0.
They did get on the board thanks to a James Bowker brace of tries and two Ben Whitehead goals.
Leigh went in seven times — Pat Grainey (two), Lee Rowley, Sam Grainey, Zac Nicholls, Andy Ball and Tom Wothington touched down — while Adam Holland kicked every one of his conversion attempts.
IN Division Three, Oldham St Anne’s held a 10-6 lead after half-an-hour of their fixture at Crosfields.
However, it was the hosts who claimed the spoils with a 36-16 victory.
Rhys Wareing, Greg Worrall and Dom Bryan crossed for Saints, with Matthew Whitehead adding two conversions.
New leaders Crosfields were strong in the final quarter of the game as Joe Moore, Nathan Taylor and John Pickersgill went over and Jack Reid kicking the goals. Reid had earlier impoved efforts by Matt Barber, Ash Corneli and Billy Sheen.
WATERHEAD Warriors were undone by a late try as they were beaten 36-30 at Castleford Panthers.
With a two-point lead heading into the final three minutes, Waterhead’s were seemingly on course for a first league win of the season in Division Three. But Panthers had other ideas, as a Ben Brailsford penalty levelled things before John Brummitt went in and the former landed his sixth goal.
Chris Brown (two), Kristian Constantinou, Neil Gooding, Reece Bradshaw and Luke Du Feu recorded tries for Waterhead. Goals came from Jamie Mayall, Terry Fitzgerald and Patrick Loft.
Panthers’ tally was made up by tries from Chris Chapman (two), Jack Riding, Jordan Holder and Declan Tonks.
