MOSSLEY’S lingering dreams of reaching the Evo-Stik League Division One North play-offs are officially over after they lost 3-2 defeat at Burscough.
The Lilywhites put in a terrific effort in trying to halt Burscough’s own charge towards the
coveted top five, but eventually slid to a second unfortunate 3-2 reverse in four days.
Tom Pratt fired Mossley into a 26th-minute lead at Victoria Park. Then four goals inside six minutes either side of the interval settled the outcome of the match.
A Paul Williams penalty, Kark Noon’s strike and an own-goal from Andy Keogh saw Burscough secure a 3-1 lead, only for Keogh to lash in and halve Mossley’s deficit a minute after he scored in his own net.
Mossley are now 14 points shy of fifth place, with just four matches to play.
They are next in action tomorrow night when they host Spennymoor Town (7.45pm kick-off).
MID-table Chadderton held promotion-chasing Barnton to an encouraging 0-0 draw in the North-West Counties League First Division.
The rescheduled return fixture takes place at Barnton on Wednesday night (7.45pm). Chaddy – who are in 14th place in the table – have six games left.
