MOSSLEY’S Evo-Stik League Division One North play-offs bid looks over thanks to a 5-1 thumping at Glossop North End yesterday.
The Lilywhites, now 12 points adrift of the top five with seven games left, capitulated at Surrey Street as they conceded three penalties and saw goalkeeper Liam Flynn and midfielder Kyle McGonigle sent off.
Despite McGonigle seeing red early on, Mossley were still in contention when only 2–1 behind at the interval.
Sam Barnes scored an own-goal to register for the visitors. But it was one-way traffic after the restart, particularly after Flynn had gone off after a second yellow card.
Jamie Rainford (three, including a penalty) and further spot-kick finishes from Dave Young and Mark Reed sealed Mossley’s fate.
The Lilywhites beat Harrogate Railway Athletic 5-3 on Saturday at Seel Park. The hosts scored their final three goals in stoppage-time.
CHADDERTON followed a 4-0 North-West Counties League First Division humbling at Ashton Town on Saturday with a brilliant 6-0 win at home to Atherton LR.
Hot-shot Niall Sultan led the way with a hat-trick, while also on the mark were Dillan O’Connor, Liam Wood and Sean Sherwood.
