PAT ON THE BACK . . . Hollinwood’s Pete Davies.
BRIGHOUSE Rangers arrived at Fields New Road with a 100 per cent record in Pennine League Division Three West, but left nursing a 24-22 defeat as Hollinwood pulled off a huge shock.
The local side fashioned a terrific comeback after conceding 20 points in the first half.
Jim Hamilton put Hollinwood on the board with a try, which Kevin Collins converted.
It was all Hollinwood in the second period as they attacked with real vigour and produced by far their best rugby of the season.
Matty McCullough went in and Lewis Harewood also crossed, before Hamilton touched down for his second try of the afternoon. Collins converted to level up the scores. A penalty put Brighouse back in front, but Hollinwood would not be denied.
With the clock ticking down, the hosts carved out the try of the match. Starting from deep in their own half, the ball was shipped through several hands and arrived at Ellis Helire, who went in with aplomb to snatch a terrific victory.
New man Joel Wroe was outstanding for Hollinwood, along with Hamilton. All the pack stood out and in the backs Pete Davies shone in a great team performance.
