CROMPTON and Royton defeated North Manchester 4-3 in the preliminary round of the Manchester and District Golf Association foursome knock-out.
Looking to avenge last year’s loss against the same opposition, Crompton and Royton hoped home advantage would see them over the line.
It was a close-run thing, though, as the match was decided on the final putt in the last game.
North Manchester were faced with a putt of 2ft on the 18th to win, but it slid past the hole.
The Crompton and Royton open day takes place on Saturday, with the Captain’s Drive-in at 1pm.
A FULL field made for a competitive Captain’s Drive-in at Brookdale Golf Club. The betterball Stableford event saw Jason Williams and John Wilson record 45 points to claim top honours.
The runners-up on a card play-off were T and G Allt (44), who pipped S Lennox and D Salt. P Deighton and G Maitland (43) were fourth.
