RUGBY: SADDLEWORTH Rangers were good value for their 42-10 defeat of Blackbrook in Division Two of the National Conference League.
Paul Geener’s side scored seven tries, five in the second half, to back up their opening day success at Dewsbury Celtic.
Rangers were always in control of the game at Shaw Hall Bank Road, after leading 12-0 at the end of the first quarter. Anthony Morrison was first to go over, followed by Matt Fogerty. Ben Whitehead kicked both goals.
Aaron Hewitt responded for the St Helens outfit, only for Whitehead to kick a penalty to extend Rangers’ lead to 14-4. Harry Godfrey put further daylight between Rangers and Blackbrook with his side’s third try, again goaled by Whitehead.
Blackbrook, through Scott Davidson’s touch down and Jordan Darwin’s conversion, gave the hosts a moment of concern. But Rangers were soon back in the ascendancy and added three tries in an 11-minute spell thanks to Whitehead, Morrison and Josh Brown.
Whitehead kicked two of the goals and notched another for an 18-point tally with time almost up after Gareth Morgan had dived in.
