Heyside title tilt boosted by Skel win

HEYSIDE’S hopes of winning back-to-back Huddersfield League titles remain firmly alive thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 Division One victory at Skelmanthorpe.

Once Heyside settled, it wasn’t long before they created good chances. Daniel Dunn fired over from close range after good work from Mark Hopwood, while Jordan Hindley spurned two good opportunities as the local side impressed.

It was just after the hour when Heyside went into the lead following good work on the edge of the box from recent signing Hindley. He chipped the ball into the path of midfielder Johnny Pauley, who superbly volleyed into the roof of the net from 20 yards.

Heyside should have extended their lead shortly after, but the home goalkeeper saved well from Hopwood.

Chris Ollerton also had strong claims for a penalty turned down as Heyside finished the game stronger than their hosts and came away with a valuable three points in their pursuit of the First Division title.

“We’re definitely in with a shout and we’ve just got to keep winning our games and see what happens,” said delighted Heyside boss Geoff Howard.
