Team ethic to fore as Oldham triumph

OLDHAM Netball Club showed plenty of effort in a 46-40 victory over LSA Netball in a hard-fought North-West Premier League contest.
The local outfit made a sluggish start, but was confident of eventually getting on top.
After ringing the changes at the first break, Oldham were much improved in the second period.
Defensive pressure throughout the court was good, which forced LSA Netball into errors.
Oldham were also savvy with the ball in attack, moving it around well.
The team’s decision-making under pressure was also good, though Oldham players were sometimes their own worst enemy, throwing the ball away unnecessarily.
Apart from their excellent teamwork, one big positive of Oldham’s game was the ability to bring the ball through the court to set up attacking options.
Ellie Fitzshugh shone as she forced balls out of court and upset the LSA Netball shooters.
“It was going to be a tough game with a depleted squad,” said Oldham coach Jackie Reid. “But they played as a team and were determined to see the game through.”
