Hollinwood fall short of Standard
Date published: 25 February 2016
HOLLINWOOD again struggled to raise a full team as they succumbed 64-0 at home to Rochdale Mayfield in the first round of the Standard Cup.
The visitors were soon on the scoresheet with a converted try, and it proved to be a long afternoon for the home side. By half-time, the visitors had chalked up 34 points without reply and they extended their advangate with a further 30 in the second half.
Led by man of the match Jim Hamilton, Hollinwood never stopped trying. Pete Davies was back in the side after five weeks out through injury and pushed Hamilton close for individual honours.
This was the second successive match in which Hollinwood shipped over 60 points. They hope to field a full complement of players for their trip to West Bowling ‘A’ in Bradford this weekend.
WATERHEAD Warriors host Saddleworth Rangers in the first Standard Cup semi-final on Saturday (2pm).
THE Johnny Blair over-35s masters memorial game will be held before the Standard Cup final at Oldham RU’s Manor Park ground on Good Friday. Any ex-players who wish to play in memory of the ex-Oldham RL player and referee should contact Ian Ogden on (0161) 633 0632 or Gaffa (0777 3927925).
