DARTS: GARY Davey had a debut to remember as Oldham defeated hosts Wigan 7-3 in the Lancashire Super Eights Elite League.
The Saddleworth ace overcame Lancs ‘A’ team star Dave Bennett 4-1, with an excellent average of 83.13 for every three darts thrown. Davey’s victory put Oldham 6-1 in front, and followed Jimmy Griffiths’ 4-1 success (77.81).
Griffiths was bridging a gap of 20 years since his previous town team appearance. Oldham made a
blistering start, with Paul McCreevey (4-0, 73.10) setting them on their way.
Dave Adshead (4-2, 74.50) doubled the lead, before Gary Jackson’s superb average of 93.96 helped him to a 4-1 triumph.
Dave Airey continued Oldham’s domination with a 4-3 win (89.65). He was locked at 3-3 with his
opponent, before producing a brilliant 11-dart finish in the deciding leg.
Although Wigan reduced the deficit to 6-3, the visitors had the last laugh as Dave Rawstron secured a comfortable 4-1 success (81.97).
