First defeat in eight costly for Heyside

HEYSIDE were knocked off the top of Huddersfield League Division One after being beaten at Hepworth United.
Geoff Howard’s men fell to their first defeat in eight games, 5-3. On a heavy surface, the local side struggled to play their normal flowing football and fell behind to a smart finish in the 20th minute.
Heyside responded when midfielder Johnny Pauley made a late run into the box to slide home an equaliser.
On the half-hour mark, the home side regained the lead when a midfielder nodded home.
On the stroke of half time, Heyside again equalised when Daniel Dunn crossed to the far post and Gary Schofield headed powerfully into the roof of the net.
Hepworth took the lead for the third time when slack marking in the box allowed their forward a free header past goalkeeper Jack Suttie. But Heyside again responded as Danny Wooliscroft turned his man and produced the goal of the game, an impudent chip over the bewildered home goalkeeper.
With the pitch worsening and the game turning scrappy, Hepworth scored two late goals to knock the stuffing out of a despondent Heyside outfit.
Uppermill lost 7-2 at Paddock Rangers in Division Three.
Jake Longmore, Dom Shiels and Danny Heywood netted for 3D Dynamos as they defeated Mount 3-1 in Division Four.
