JUST REWARD . . . Callum Cashin crosses the try line for St Anne’s.
RUGBY: ST ANNE’S displayed plenty of resilience before succumbing 36-4 at home to Myton Warriors in the third round of the BARLA National Cup.
The visitors to Higginshaw Lane are in a higher division than Saints and their superior firepower and defensive ability proved the difference.
Myton started strongly and pushed through for second row man Nick Halstead to score by the posts.
Myton seemed to move up a gear and a keen St Anne’s defence matched the increased tempo. But as the referee gave the visitors the benefit of the doubt, their possession led to further tries through stand-off Ash James and impressive Lee James. Ash converted both.
Saints showed enterprise in attack and winger Callum Cashin was rewarded with a try when he skilfully regathered on the fly from a Kiel Lancashire kick. The goal was missed to leave the half-time score 18-4 to Myton.
After the break, well-organised Myton scored after only six minutes and while Saints battled bravely, they lacked the final touch against a solid defence, while Myton scored more tries through Rory Nielson and James Jenninson, both converted.
