Oldham impress as coach rotates

NETBALL: OLDHAM Netball Club’s National Premier League side continued their good form with a 54-35 home win over Oaksway.

The hosts started slowly and Oaksway scored the first goal - but it was the only time the North-East side led. Oldham took control and never looked back, despite the line-up changing in each quarter.

Every squad member played at least half the game, with coach Debbie Hallas giving some youngsters good court time and resting more experienced players.

Oldham used their superior speed to great effect with Iona Darroch again proving effective in the mid-court. Her combination with Laura Malcolm drove the ball to the shooters with ease, and Kathryn Turner and Krista Enziano duly slotted away.

Lucy Stevenson and Amy Neild replaced Turner and Darroch for the second period, but the changes did little to halt the flow and quick play of Oldham. Their lead extended quickly, with Stevenson showing some composed shooting under pressure as Oldham led 29-15.

More changes were rung for the third period, and Oldham looked comfortable in their lead - which led to a few uncharacteristic errors, easily controlled.

Leading 42-24 heading to the final period, Oldham’s Stevenson and Dovey replaced Turner and Cullen, and again Oldham pulled away with some clinical play.

Oaksway never really challenged the home side and the reigning champions were 54-35 winners.
