Avro share six goals in top-flight cracker

FOOTBALL: AVRO and Hindsford drew 3-3 at the Lancaster Club as two FBT Manchester League Premier Division mid-table sides went head-to-head.

Chadderton’s second string were knocked out of the Murray Shield, 2-0 at home by Leigh Athletic.

It was derby day in the battles of the Division Two reserve teams. Hollinwood got the better of neighbours Avro by the odd goal in nine.

Hollinwood’s rampant ‘A’ team crushed Boothstown Reserves 8-0 in Division Three. Reece Holden (four), Michael Shepherd (two), Brad Connell and Ashley McConkie were on target.

In the same division, Uppermill’s second string romped to a 7-1 win at Atherton Town ‘A’. Gerard Forde (three), Tom Bagshaw (two), Sam Bagshaw and Nick Warhurst were on the mark.



OLDHAM Victoria returned to action following an eight-week break because of the weather with a resounding 4-1 victory over Irlam Steel in the last-16 of the Manchester County FA Amateur Cup.

The goalscorers for Vics, who will now meet North Manchester in the quarter-finals, were Paul Arrowsmith (two), Anthony Morris and Liam Sproson.



COPPICE United were the big winners as the Oldham Sunday League Challenge Cup competition took centre stage.

Premier Division Coppice hammered Division One Legends of Lees 9-1 in a second round tie as Naved Butt (three), Danny O’Connell (two), Yasser Farooq, Muzaffar Ali, Shabir Ali and Kameel Ahmed were on the mark. Gareth Armstead struck for Legends.

Ronnie Leighton, Aaron Hurst (two) and Lee Bradshaw registered for FC Failsworth as they beat High Crompton Victoria 4-2. Jack Brocklehurst bagged both goals for Vics.

Forhad Chowdhury scored both goals for Westwood as they eased past Oldham GPO 2-1. Steve King struck for the posties.

In the first round of the competition, Britannia beat Heyrod 6-2 in the battle of the Division Two high-fliers. Connor Kerrigan (two), Jordan Hall, Danny Pryce, Andy Hughes and Danny Whittaker scored for Britannia, with Mark Greaves and Robert Quinlan replying.

In David Giblin Division One, Springhead Libs edged out Chaddy Cott 3-2 thanks to goals from Ben Maher (two) and Mabz Miah. Chris McDonald scored twice for the Cott club.

Siddall and Stevenson struck for Royton Athletic in a 2-2 draw with Alt Athletic, for whom Barrow and Jackson replied.

Horseshoe thumped Martin Buckley Division Two basement side Dog and Partridge 14-1. Daniel Jackson led the way with a brilliant seven-goal haul, while Adam Carr (two), Kyle Townsend (two), Callum Mazyczencko, Louis Fitton and Kieran Flannagan completed the rout. Niall Barnes netted for Dog.

Leaders Top House defeated Oldham XI 6-1 thanks to Matty Crothers (three), Lanre Olapade (two) and Charlie Burton. Matt Hamilton replied.

Both Oldham Sunday League sides won their Manchester County Cup ties.

Crown beat Urmstom Meadowside 3-2 thanks to Tobias Heyes’ hat-trick, while Ashley Ainsworth (three), Callum Franklin and Teio Coleman scored for Fitton Hill in a 5-2 victory romp at Didsbury.
