OLDHAM geared up perfectly for their top of the table clash against leaders Rochdale with an impressive 8-2 defeat of Lune Valley.
BDO star Mark McGeeney was in sublime form for the town team in the Lancashire Super Eights Elite League clash, averaging a stunning 94.49 for every three darts thrown in an emphatic 4-0 triumph. His Dutch Open commitment this weekend precludes him from facing high-flying Dale at the Blue Club on Sunday (12.30pm).
Paul Phillips also impressed for Oldham against Lune Valley, notching three 180s and averaging 85.06 in a 4-1 success. Phillips followed Ian Walters on to the oche, with the latter winning 4-3 (76.41).
Dave Adshead (4-1, 82.90) made it 3-0 to Oldham, before Lune Valley got on the board for the first time.
Wins for Stuart Harding (4-1, 76.48), Dave Rawstron (4-2, 75.37) and Steve Gallimore (4-3, 72.92) re-established Oldham’s authority. McGeeney stretched the lead to 7-1 and Paul McGrevey brought up win number eight (4-0, 78.32).
Lune Valley prevented Oldham claiming a ninth victory with success in the last match.
Looking ahead to this weekend’s encounter, Oldham will be eager to eat into Rochdale’s eight-point lead, despite the loss of McGeeney.
