Last-man Dave has a point to prove

GOLF: THE Stamford Arms Golf Society enjoyed a competition at Stamford Golf Club and Paul Traynor was poised to celebrate after posting a great haul of 45 points.
But final man out Dave Allen had the last laugh with a winning score of 46 points in an event superbly organised by Phil Ramsden.
THERE have been two sad losses at Stamford. Long-serving Alan Hartley died before Christmas and was followed by the passing of Bill Ricardo. The latter was a life member who joined the club in 1971 and served in a variety of committee roles.
THERE was some good scoring in a Tuesday Stableford at Ashton. Peter Sidebotham won with 42 points from Dave Hufton (40) and Neil Sidebotham, Peter Haq, Dave Briddon and Glyn Andrew (all on 39).
Meanwhile, the annual bucket Stableford at Ashton saw the men taste a container filled with Guinness and fizz which was handed round at the presentation. Neil Hallsworth and Sean Gregg enjoyed the celebration with their top score of 41 points. They won a card play-off against Eric Rostron and Barry Nixon, and Fraser Sidebotham and Paul Radcliffe.
PGA North is on course for an action-packed season with several new events on the schedule. Pro-ams figure high on the list, with seven more clubs joining the fold. In addition, the popular Lakeland Classic, revived last year, will resume for its traditional two days at Windermere.
Conwy will replace Aberdovey and join forces with Royal St David’s to provide the enduring 36-hole pro-am with a fresh impetus. England’s Golf Coast three-day pro-am also holds its place in the schedule. And the North Region Championship at Carus Green and James Brearley Lancashire Open at Blackpool North Shore have confirmed their commitment to the Order of Merit calendar.
