BOXING: THERE will be plenty of punch perfection on show when Darren Stubbs’s gym — Stubby’s ABC — stages an exciting first club show this weekend.

The ‘Big Boxing Bonanza’ takes place at the Middleton Arena on Saturday night, and there are SIXTEEN bouts on the bill.

Shaw-based Stubby’s ABC has grown rapidly since former International and British Masters title holder Stubbs launched it just over two years ago.

Now England Boxing affiliated, there are currently 14 talented registered juniors on his books, as well as nine senior hopefuls. Many of them will be action on Saturday, when opponents from clubs across England will lock horns.

Stubby’s also boasts a small army of dedicated, qualified volunteer coaches.

Head coach Stubbs said: “Everybody involved at Stubby’s can’t wait for Saturday now. To be honest it’s been a bit nervewracking for me, but all the fighters have been training hard.

“I’m loving every minute of running the gym, getting it up and running was the best decision I’ve ever made. I wouldn’t be able to keep it going without the help of my volunteer coaches, though. I can’t thank them enough.’
