FOOTBALL: CHADDERTON’S second string continue to struggle at the wrong end of the FBT Manchester League Division One table.
The Broadway outfit was beaten 4-2 by table-topping East Manchester, with Matt Booth and Liam Wilson providing the consolation goals.
It was derby day in Division Two, with Royton Town reserves getting the better of their Hollinwood counterparts 5-1. Redmond Porter scored a hat-trick for Town, with Saul Ashworth and Marco Rea
completing the tally.
In Division Three, Hollinwood ‘A’ began 2016 in style as they triumphed 6-3 against Old Alts reserves.
Michael Shepherd scored four times, while Carl Beamish and Paul Badby completed the rout.
Three of our local sides in the Premier Division are at home tomorrow, with the pick of the matches being at the Oldham Academy North, where fourth-placed Royton Town entertain second-placed Hindsford (3.15pm).
PLAYERS from Oldham Victoria, Moorside Rangers, Whalley Range, Newton Heath, Newton, Old Stretfordians, Bedians and Old Ashtonians were in the Lancashire and Cheshire League representative side which took on the South Yorkshire FL at Bedians FC and triumphed 5-4.
The L and C side took the lead after 13 minutes in the annual challenge match thanks to a tap-in from Liam Woolley (Newton), but the SYL were soon on level terms.
A fine team effort set up Woolley who bagged an excellent goal after 21 minutes, and captain Asa Hallsworth (Bedians) made it 3-1.
The outstanding Tieo Coleman (Newton Heath) extended the lead to 4-1 before the break. A thunderous 25-yard effort from Mason Gilligan (Moorside) made it 5-1 in the 56th minute, taking the L and C to what looked like an unassailable lead.
The introduction of several substitutions by the L and C side upset their rhythm and the SYL showed their battling spirit as their always-dangerous attack saw them score three times in the last 15
minutes to have the hosts grateful when hearing the final whistle from referee Paul Kershaw.
