Kremner ticking over

BOXING: ANDY Kremner is enjoying a quiet Christmas break with his family — but remains focused on his training schedule ahead of a likely return to the ring in February.

The 23-year-old welterweight hopeful has made a terrific start to his professional boxing career, with a convincing points verdict against Danny Little in October making it six wins from six.

Delph based Kremner said: “I’m just ticking over nicely at the moment. A few dates for my next fight have been mentioned. I’m hoping I’ll be out there again in February. I can’t wait to get back under the lights again.”

Kremner could be set for a pivotal 2016 as he looks to make further progress up the British rankings: “If I can win another four fights in the new year I can get myself into title reckoning by the end of 2016.”

Chadderton-based WBA world lightweight champion Anthony Crolla will resume training next week as he gears up for the first defence of his title.

The 29 year old knocked out Colombian Darleys Perez in November at the Manchester Arena and his trainer Joe Gallagher has now confirmed a ring return for either February or March.

Gallagher insists Crolla’s next contest won’t be alongside another high-profile bout at the arena. The award-winning trainer said: “It will be a separate bill to Scott Quigg’s fight on February 27. There’s no way Quigg would allow Crolla on his bill now its sold out; it would have to come out of Quigg’s wages!”

Crolla has a couple of options available to him for his next outing, with a unification showdown with WBC champion Jorge Linares a possibility.
