ANGLING: THE Thornhill Canal is fishing well - as Keith Marshall showed with a 9lb 15oz match-winning net!
His catch fell to bloodworm and caster at six and 11 metres, and was made up of skimmers and roach to 12 ounces. Steve Crossley filled second place with 150 roach and perch taken at 11 metres, with bloodworm the best bait.
FAILSWORTH-based Graham Mitchell continued his good form with another win in the Diggle AC winter series at Old Hough Farm Fishery. Drawn on Prospect Lake, he opted for maggot when the wind dropped late on, and caught 17lb 8oz of silvers.
That beat Ian Hirst (13lb 3oz of silvers and carp) and Gary Matthews (12lb 7oz of mostly silvers taken on maggot).
The best weight at Lucky Dip Lake and overall winner was John Horrocks with 25lb 3oz of barbel taken on pole and corn.
He was followed by Mike Henshaw’s 23lb 3oz of f1s taken on pole and corn.
JOHN Edwards won the TH open match on the vinegar works length of the Rochdale Canal with two out-of-season tench and some skimmers which fell to bread punch and caster and weighed in at 7lb.
Second place went to Brian Meadows with some skimmers and roach which fell to bread punch and tipped the scales at 4lb 13oz.
WAS on the Calder and Hebble Canal in Wakefield once again and for most of the competition it fished well. My section was won with just 1lb 9oz of perch as I had to settle for second place with 1lb 4oz.
The other end of the match saw plenty of double-figure weights. Dave Scales again took first place with 14lb 8oz of roach, perch, dace and chub which fell to bronze maggot at 12 metres.
Steve Crossley took second with 13lb 2oz of roach and perch
