GO FOR IT . . . Chadderton’s Leon Iloube (right) leaves a defender trailing in his wake.
Non-league: PLAYERS and staff at Chadderton will enjoy a happy Christmas as they head into the holiday on the back of two wins.
Chaddy saw off depleted Whitchurch Alport 2-0 in the North-West Counties League First Division, shrugging off the muddy conditions to prevail thanks to goals from veteran Gareth Morris in the first half, and Niall Sultan’s stoppage-time strike.
Chaddy’s cause was helped by Whitchurch only being able to field 10 players, but the hosts did go on to dominate the match and ought to have scored more.
James Curley missed a penalty. After crushing St Helens Town 6-3 in the Reusch First Division Trophy in their previous match, Chaddy appear to have turned a significant corner.
Chaddy moved up to 13th place in the table and still harbour hopes of reaching the end-of-season play-offs, as they did last season.
They are back in action on Saturday when they host Stockport Town at Andrew Street.
IT proved to be a disastrous day for Mossley, who crashed 5-0 at Evo-Stik League Division One North high-fliers Warrington Town.
The Lilywhites were well and truly thumped as Alastair Brown and Ben Deegan had Town in cruise control by the interval. Mossley are next in action on Boxing Day when they host Glossop North End
