SIXTEEN goals shared – is this an Oldham Sunday League record?
Only three games were played in the Oldham Sunday League last weekend – the rest were postponed due to adverse weather conditions.
But these weren’t ordinary matches, because no fewer than 41 goals were scored, together with some amazing individual goalscoring feats.
Let’s start with Limeside Athletic and Carrion Crow, who shared shared six goals in the Jack Abbott Premier Division at Limeside Park. Dave Shaw scored twice for Limeside, with Lewis McCormick completing the home side’s tally.
Danny Fitzhugh, Calum Beckett and player-boss Lee Harrison were on target for Crow, whose share of the spoils were enough to lift them off the foot of the table on goal difference from Oldham GPO.
In Martin Buckley Division Two, you could have been forgiven for thinking a game of rugby had taken place at Hopwood Hall, where Jordan Hall bagged an incredible SEVEN goals as his Brittania side cruised to a 15-4 victory over Dog and Partridge.
There was a final, astonishing scoreline as Oldham XI and White House were responsible for an 8-8 scoreline at the Oasis Academy. White House striker Kieran Glynn netted six times, with further goals from Jordan Holt and David Riley.
James Nuttall’s hat-trick for Oldham XI was accompanied by goals from Jack House (two), Steven Mullen, Liam Ure and Paul Mullen.
