Angling: FAILSWORTH angler Ken Power clinched more success at Field Farm Fishery with a 37lb 2oz net of mirrors and commons.

The Tri-Cast Highfield ace was on Big Beam Lake, where he opted for the pole at 12 metres with corn on the hook over micro pellets.

Travelling partner and team-mate Dave Holland (Tri-Cast Highfield) was in second place, with corn over pellets at 16 metres netting 28lb 6oz of stockies and f1s. Dabba Booth was third with 25lb of carp.

Sunday’s match on Field Farm saw Holland take first place as the long pole, corn and pellets accounted for 28lb 12oz of f1s. Power was relegated to second place, with 22lb 14oz of carp.

KYLE Ashworth topped the Todmorden AS Grand Christmas match at Croft, thanks to a 32lb net made up of carp. One carp was all Ben Summerscales needed for second place: it weighed 13lb 12oz!.

Pete Mottram was the Townhouse winner — he weighed in 26lb 12oz — with Ian Ridgeway in second place after registering a 12lb 4oz net.

Todmorden AS are staging their next silverfish match on Sunday, December 20 at Croft Fishery.

PETE Cuniffe produced another super performance in the Twingate AC OAP matches on the bottom lodge.

He returned 5lb 14oz, which held off the late challenge of Tommy Smith.

The runner-up was set to be among the also-rans, until two carp in the last 20 minutes saw him weigh in a second-best 3lb 12oz.

I WAS on the Calder and Hebble Canal near Wakefield and, after drawing ‘flyer’ peg two, I was already counting my winnings. My confidence was soon washed away.

Heavy rain left the canal heavily coloured so the pegs that gave double-figure weights the previous week turned out to be the worst in the match. The hot spots were at the opposite end of the match length.

Dave Scales, looking to add to his win of the previous week, drew the end peg. He caught fish throughout after the first 30 minutes, with caster, maggot and pinkie tempting 6lb 8oz of roach and perch. In second place from the same area was Rob Crispin, who had 3lb 14oz 8drams of roach and perch.

IT was hard going for most competitors in the Slaithwaite Christmas match on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal — but winner Richard East wasn’t complaining.

The Matrix Halifax rod tipped a match-winning 7lb 13oz of skimmers, roach and perch on to the scales.

East was drawn on the Appleyards section, where he employed chopped worm and caster to comfortably deny team-mate Nigel Storr. Storr had a 2lb 14oz catch which included two small skimmers
