MAXIMUM EFFORT . . . Barry Elliott secured a treble for Hollinwood ‘A’.
TABLE TENNIS: POLLARDS ‘A’ celebrated a tremendous 6-4 triumph over high-flying Honeywell ‘E’ in Division Three of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.
The main men for Pollards were Robert Ainsworth and Graham Mathers, who registered excellent trebles.
Coldhurst ‘B’ took advantage of Honeywell’s setback to narrow the gap for the second promotion place with a fine 9-1 win at home to Uppermill ‘B’.
Harry Lewis and Keith Butler both notched maximums and Neil Chapman claimed a double. Keith Moores scored Uppermill’s consolation.
In Division One, Honeywell ‘B’ produced a good performance to restrict high-flying Birley Moss to a 6-4 scoreline. There were two wins each for Honeywell pair Peter Fowler and Lucasz Maciejewski, while Birley were indebted to Kyan Chin’s treble and singles from Naz and Kal Ahmed.
Hollinwood ‘A’ put in a fine display to defeat Honeywell ‘A’ 8-2, thanks to maximums from Barry Elliott and Gabriel Wilding. Matthew Kelly also notched a good victory. Gary Newton and Marcus McNulty replied with singles.
Amazingly, there were four draws in Division Two.
Grotton ‘A’ shared the spoils with Unison ‘B’, which included a treble for the latter’s Jacob Reilly-Cooper.
Hyde ‘A’ posted two draws. Colin Turner, of Hyde notched a double in the stalemate with Werneth ‘B’, for whom Karen Hill and Dave Holme also bagged doubles.
They also tied with their ‘B’ team, with Steve Hilton recording a typically efficient treble for the latter.
Finally, Stanley Square, featuring a treble by Glen Chadwick, drew 5-5 with Honeywell ‘D.
Bottom-of-the-table in Division Four, Pollards ‘C’ did well to restrict second-placed Honeywell ‘F’ to a 7-3 scoreline.
