COUNT THE FINGERS . . . Heyside’s Mark Hopwood (left) and Danny Heywood from 3D Dynamos have both scored in 12 consecutive games. And yes, another player decided to get in on the act...
NEVER mind Leicester hit-man Jamie Vardy’s new Premier League record of scoring in 11 consecutive games.
Two local players have notched goals in 12 straight matches.
The pair play in the Huddersfield League and reached their milestone last Saturday.
Mark Hopwood (28) scored in his 12th consecutive league game as newly-promoted Heyside thumped visiting Holmbridge 5-0.
He has now put 15 goals in the net in the gozen games (16 in all games). He said: “It wasn’t until I’d scored for the 10th or 11th game running that some of the other lads pointed out I was keeping up with the Jamie Vardy run. To then go one better than him is great. Hopefully I can keep scoring”.
Boss Howard added: “I was delighted when Mark joined us in pre-season because I knew he’d make an impact in this division.”
The other Huddersfield League star is 23-year-old Danny Heywood. He has scored in all 12 league games for Division Four outfit 3D Dynamo and beat Vardy’s run by scoring twice last weekend in a 6-2 home win against Lindley Saddle.
He now has 15 goals in 12 games, and 21 overall.
Proud Dynamos’ boss Steve Laithwaite said: “Danny’s instinctive finishing and alertness allows him to find the space he needs to get in front of goal and finish off. He’s a constant menace to the opposition.”
