IT’S THAT WAY . . . Oldham XI’s Jamie Clark (left) is challenged.
Oldham XI 1, Royton Cricket Club 2
ROYTON Cricket Club won for the first time this season in the Martin Buckley Second Division of the Oldham Sunday League on Oasis Academy’s lush playing surface.
Royton player-manager Darren Morgan said: “Even though we are bottom of the league, we are still a hard team to beat. Opposition sides find it difficult to break us down. It was great to get the win and hopefully we can now move on and get a few more.”
Despite the heavy rain vefore the match, the Oasis surface was in fine form. The Oldham XI, up among the high-flyers in the division, can feel a little unlucky at not getting a share of the spoils.
Royton took the lead after 10 minutes when Morgan’s corner-kick was met by Liam Brown, whose powerful header fairly bulged the back of the net.
Oldham pulled themselves level 10 minutes before the break when Tom Breza pounced from six yards following a goalmouth scramble, but Royton took the points when Brendan Flaherty’s header from 10 yards entered the net as a slight deflection.
