Angling: THERE were good weights in the latest Diggle AS Individual Winter League match on Old Hough Fisheries’ Boulders and Goose lakes.
John Pearson was first on Boulders with 19lb, followed by Vic Trees’ 18lb 5oz net. At Goose, Graham Mitchell was the man to beat as his pole and maggot tactics worked to perfection, netting 35lb 1oz.
Runner-up Mick Henshall had 29ln 11oz.
CHRIS Lett took first place in round three of the Todmorden AS Silver Fish League on Townhouse Fishery. Opting for pole and maggot, he bagged 17lb 5oz of silvers to deny Pete Wilson, who used the long pole and maggot for 13lb 12oz.
KEV Marler, of Tight Lines in Shaw, was the winner of the Blundells midweek match. Employing corn at five metres, he caught an outstanding 108lb 14oz of carp and f1s that fed freely on Trio lake.
Second was Gary Whalley, with maggot accounting for a level 100lb.
TRI-CAST Highfield dominated the Field Farm Fishery open. Winner Dave Holland fished 4mm pellets over micros for 38lb, with team-mate Shaun Paddon used pole and maggot for two carp and some roach.
I VISITED the Market Drayton length of the Shropshire Union Canal where, despite horrendous weather conditions with high winds and heavy rain, the fishing for some was superb.
Manchester angler Ged Martin (Tri-Cast Highfield) topped the weights. Housed at the much-fancied Marina area, he had an 11lb 9oz catch of roach, skimmers and decent perch on the long pole maggot and caster.
Martin lost almost as much again, as several big fish escaped the hook, but he still landed enough to beat Browning Lifestyle angler Lewis Spencer’s 11lb 2oz of skimmers and roach.
