MOSSLEY’S inconsistent form in the Evo-Stik League Division One North continued with a 2-1 home defeat against Brighouse Town.
At a windswept Seel Park, Dave Short opened the scoring for Mossley early on, a lead they would hold on to until the 73rd minute when Tom Haigh equalised for the Yorkshiremen and Ryan Hall pounced to net the winner three minutes later. Town leapfrogged Mossley into eighth place in the table as a result.
In the run-up to the game, Mossley joint-bosses Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison were busy in the transfer market.
Mitchell Bryant, the fiery striker who missed eight months of last season through suspension, was let go by mutual consent, and the club has drafted in four newcomers, former England schoolboy international midfielder Scott Cheetham (22) from FC United, defender Andy Fitzgerald (22) from Glossop North End, 21-year-old midfielder Bobby Lofthouse from Stockport County, and defender Lanre Olapade (19) from Ramsbottom United. Cheetham, Fitzgerald and Lofthouse were all on the bench for the Brighouse game. Mossley travel to Farsley Celtic in their next game on Saturday.
CHADDERTON’S scheduled home North-West Counties League First Division clash against Holker Old Boys was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. Chaddy host St Helens Town on Wednesday in the second round of the Reusch First Division Cup.
