ANGLING: DAVE Booth stormed to a big victory in the Sunday Open at Fields Farm Fishery.
Pellet fished down the track did the damage as Booth bagged a huge 47lb 8oz of carp to 4lb in his net.
Dave Holland (Tri-Cast Highfield) was also in the money with 21lb 12oz of carp and skimmers taken in the nearside margins.
Fields Farm Fishery is getting attention these days with open matches on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Several local anglers are doing well at the venue, with Tuesday’s match a prime example.
THE latest round in the Diggle AC individual winter league on Prospect and Lucky Dip Lakes at Old Hough Fishery saw high winds make competition virtually impossible for the majority of the anglers.
That didn’t stop Eon Wilson, who fished tight across at his peg on Prospect with maggots to catch roach, carp, f1s and skimmers adding up to 24lb 15oz.
Mike Henshaw was second on Prospect, and again he fished across with maggot to weigh in a mixed bag of 22lb 2oz.
STEVE Warriner took first place in the latest Todmorden AS silvers league match with a level 16lb of roach, skimmers and perch all taken on pole and maggot.
Pete Mottram included a 3lb chub in his 14lb net that fell to chopped worm and caster.
I FISHED the penultimate round of the 120-peg Wigan Winter League on the Heatons Bridge length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. I have never fished in weather as windy.
Numerous pole sections were broken, including one of mine that I was fishing at just eight metres.
The wind abated for the last hour for some and they managed to get across to the fish, including winner John Lees (Tri-Cast Rochdale).
With just a few small perch in his net, he ventured across with caster on the hook and caught several bream for 10lb 5oz.
Second-placed Rochdale angler Mark Webb (Saints) also went across late on to catch several skimmers to add to his roach taken on bread punch to finish with 7lb 13oz.
Top team on the day was Tri-Cast Rochdale with 39 points, in front of Wigan AA’s 40.
With a match to go, Wigan are in front with 167 points, followed by Ted Carter Preston (207) and Saints (227).
